I want to make this retro style birthday cake. Anyone know what 'let them eat cake' actually means?? I'm sure i should know this but wine kills brain cells so that's me pretty much screwed ;)
I think it is when the people of England were starving and they told the queen her people were dying of starvation and they were only provided with rotting food and she said "let them eat cake" basically the first recorded moment of ditssyness but it is only allegedly not really written in stone of actually happening :) I think that is it
Umm...I believe it is commonly attributed to Marie Antoinette (then Queen of France) in response to the people's pleas for bread. It was used, I think, to illustrate her supposed callous attitude towards them. Soon after, they cut off her head for it!
Your cake looks yummy good! And about two sips of wine does that to me!
Welcome to my inspiration bubble :) Simple style with personality. . . Everything here is things that i love and inspire me. Mainly my passion for mid-century modern, minimal and 50's & 60's vintage/retro interiors with a hint of industrial style. Also random snippets of my life and my home. . I am constantly craving new inspiration so a large part of my blog is the evergrowing inspirational interiors collection - interiors gallery . Obsessive by nature, i'm just a normal, slightly crazy girl with a big heart :)

I think I could walk on water to get to this cake. It looks mouth watering delicious.
Tikimama's right - it has been attributed to Marie Antoinette but some believe it may not have been said in a bad way at all.

Back to the cake... have they used some kind of pastry or finger bun around the edge? with icing in between?
It does look scrumptious!
I have an urge to put my face in that cake!

that cake is a site to behold!!! i am rabid for raspberries, and i just want to pick them all off and pop them in my mouth.
i heard marie antoinette never really said it, though this saying is attributed to her. hmm. but great looking cake! yum
The saying "Let them eat cake" was used by Marie Antoinette and had to do with her fascination with lesbians..if you know what I'm saying.
