jenn ski rocks

.
Look what i got in the post this morning - super fab retro cards from the wonderful jenn ski! Couldn't quite believe it but i managed to win another competition and bagged these cool cards from jenn ski studio blog last month, designed by the lady herself of course.
.
Our Jenn is a talented artist and designer with a great eye for the quirky mid-century look. She is already pretty famous in the blog world but check out her other cards, prints, bags, and she's just released a new scrapbooking line. Go jenn! And thank you :)

procrastinating queen

To all the procrastinaters out there, including me.

Happy weekend! Do something you've been putting off, you WILL feel proud and happier :)

black and white

I'm definitely starting to love more black accents with my whites. Some gorgeous contrasting rooms....

Equals..... the lobster chair:

.

.
Am i the only one that has never seen this lobster chair before? I found it by accident this morning and now suddenly keep seeing it all over web land. Designed by lund & paarman for verikon furiture, it's like a mix between the eames lounger and the egg chair.
.
Have to say i love the wooden sectional back much more than the front! Out of all 3 i prefer the egg. But if anyones offering i would much rather have an eames RAR rocker please :)

1973: the good life

These cool cards from nineteenseventythree look like authentic retro cards from the 70s! Available online or from paperchase or selfridges, these cards are eco friendly recycled 'the good life' range. I love them - they look so simple, happy and retro!

clever storage

.
These old wooden boxes look stylish and unique but without trying too hard.
Love them placed next to the super sleek stool.

Such a great use for old drawers! That's all they are, painted, backed with wallpaper and placed sideways. Not my preferred colour but love the idea and the wallpaper backing.

Love this storage solution. Really wish i'd thought of doing this years ago BEFORE i had my stairs carpeted (big regret). You can't even tell there are hidden drawers there when closed. Definitely an essential project for my next house.... one day, far far away.....

white wednesday

My mind's not quite with it today, didn't even realise it was wednesday! I think i'm in need of a calming white fix....

kitchen progress

First stage photos! There is still a lot of finishing off for me to do but i'm happy with the work so far AND it only cost me £35 for removal of all cupboard doors/drawers and to fix 7 doors/handles, £5 per door basically. When it's all finished i'll add up the total cost of everything but am guessing it will come in easily under £100. Not bad going :)
.
Reminder of kitchen before here
..
The remainder of the work i can all by do myself...
.
8 Finish with white edging at side of cupboards, above cupboards (bottom pic) and kickboards
.
8 Unsure whether to spray paint the stool legs dark brown?? They are a bit too naff chromey looking for me, not entirely sure why i bought something so naff in the first place. Would love some vintage stools but can't afford luxurys like that at the mo!
.
8 Would also kill for a dark wooden floor instead of the oak, wonder if i could stain it....
..

Close up - above cupboard doors all need white edging (ordered off ebay for £5 per 450x2m)

Gorgeous 5 storey town house in Brussels with a vintage vibe. 5 storeys! In my dreams!

troublesome tuesday

Maybe there is something wrong with me. I come into work today for my already reduced 3 day week and am told that it may be reduced even more to 1 or 2 days, therefore even less money for me. So what do i do? I go and look at potential houses on the internet. This is when i realise that maybe i am seriously in denial. I need to get off my getting-fatter-by-the-day backside and do something like now!!! My kitchen buzz is rapidly disappearing...
.

Plan of action

.

8 get out my sewing machine and make things in vintage/retro fabrics to sell on eBay/etsy

.

8 sell unwanted items on eBay

.

8 apply for part time jobs

.

8 ummm.... there must be something else surely.... stop procrastinating maybe....

kitchen smitten

delikatissen - flickr

And so is my kitchen! Well, nearly. The doors are on, the doors are on, the doors ARE ON finally. I'm sure i am coming across completely mad but it seems like i've waited f-o-r-e-v-e-r for this and i honestly cannot believe it's done. I have to keep going back into the kitchen and staring!
.
Anyway i'm very pleased, it looks a million squillion times better and i still have the kickboards, edging and a couple of cupboard sides to do, so it can only improve. Question is do i post progress pics now or wait til its all finished.... hmmm....

inspiration distraction

Today I am at home and my kitchen is being worked on as i type this! Yay!! Trying to do my best to distract myself from all the noises coming from the kitchen but it's not easy, i've waited sooooo long for this i think i feel slightly sick.
.
To try and distract me here's some inspiration pics from rachel whiting via delikatissen....
